Matt came to our home was a delight to work with. Excellent workmanship and very courteous. Went above and beyond to assist. He provided us with quotes for various plumbing items, he quickly provided a detailed quote, explained options. He was excellent at commencing work in one area, and double checked water pressure in our area, hot water system and the plumbing items I had purchased. A great tradesman. Thoroughly recommend. Thankyou Matt.

What we fix
- Wet wipes that went down and never broke apart
- Sanitary products caught just past the pan
- A toy or a bottle lid somebody small put down there
- Build up on the pipe wall a little further along
- A weak flush leaving waste sitting in the line
Why this happens
A blocked toilet is either a toilet problem or a drain problem, and telling those two apart is most of the job. If the pan fills and empties slowly while the rest of the house is fine, the blockage sits in the pan or just past it. If the shower beside it is also slow, or water rises in the floor waste when you flush, the toilet is only where the trouble is showing.
In the pan itself it is nearly always one of three things. Wet wipes, sold as flushable and not, which go down but never break apart. Sanitary products. Or a child's toy, which is more common than anyone admits and is usually why a toilet blocks the same week every time.
Past the pan it becomes the same story as any other drain. Roots at a joint, a build up along the pipe wall, or a section that has dropped and now holds water instead of moving it.
The thing not to do is keep flushing. A pan that is already full has nowhere to put the next flush, and the overflow runs across the floor and under the base where you cannot see it or dry it.

What actually happens on the job
Work out where it sits
A look and a plunge tell us quickly whether this is the pan or the line beyond it. That decides everything after.
Clear the pan
When it is in the pan we clear it there, which normally means the toilet never has to come off the floor.
Go further if it is the line
When the blockage is past the pan, the camera goes down and it becomes a drain job, cleared with the jetter.
Check the flush
A toilet that blocks over and over sometimes has a weak flush behind it. Worth looking at while we are standing there.
What it costs
137 toilet jobs completed and counted, out of 1,060 jobs all up.
No call-out fee, the price agreed before anyone starts, and it does not move once you have said yes. We can usually get to you today.
Quoted before we start, once we know whether it is the pan or the line.
A pan blockage is a smaller job than a main line. If it turns out to be the line, you hear that before the price moves, not after.

Toilet not flushing properly? Where the problem actually is
A toilet that will not flush is sometimes the toilet and sometimes the line underneath it. They need very different jobs, so it is worth knowing which.
- 1Fills slowly, flushes weakly
The cistern, not the drain. Usually the inlet valve. A small part and a quick job.
- 2Flushes but the bowl empties slowly
A partial blockage in the trap or just past it. Often something that should not have gone down, and wet wipes are the usual answer whatever the packet says.
- 3Water rises then drains away slowly
The blockage is past the toilet and out in the line. Clearing the pan will not fix it.
- 4Other fixtures gurgle when you flush
The main line, not the toilet. The toilet is just the first place it shows because it moves the most water at once.
- 5It has blocked more than once in a year
Something is wrong with the line rather than with what is going down it. Worth putting a camera down and finding out rather than clearing it again.
If it is only the toilet, it is usually a small job. If other fixtures are reacting when you flush, the problem is further along and clearing the pan will not touch it.
Blocked Toilets, in plain terms
Pan or line, and how we tell
The first question is whether the blockage sits in the toilet or somewhere past it, because they are different jobs at different prices. If the pan fills and slowly drains on its own while the rest of the house is fine, it is in the pan.
If the shower next to it runs slow, or water comes up in the floor waste when you flush, the toilet is only where the problem is showing. The blockage is in the main line and clearing the pan will not touch it.
What actually goes down there
Wet wipes are the big one. They are sold as flushable, which only means they will go down. They do not fall apart in water the way toilet paper does, so they reach the first rough joint, stop, and everything after them stops too.
After that it is sanitary products and, more often than anyone admits, something a child has posted down there. A toilet that blocks in the same week every time usually has something sitting just past the bend catching everything.
Why a weak flush causes blockages
A flush has to move waste along a fair length of pipe in one go. If the cistern is not filling to its proper level, or the outlet valve is not opening fully, you get enough water to clear the pan and not enough to clear the line.
Waste ends up sitting partway along waiting for the next flush. Fix the flush and a toilet that had been blocking every few weeks often stops on its own.
Not sure if it is a blocked toilets job?
That is fine. Most people ring us with symptoms, not answers. We will help you work out what needs doing and what can wait.
A quick call helps more than perfect wording
You do not need to know whether to call it blocked toilets or something else. Tell us what you can see, what has changed, and whether the problem is getting worse. From there we can send the right gear instead of making you diagnose it.
We slow down when the choice matters
Some blocked toilets work has more than one sensible fix. If a smaller repair will get you through, we will say so. If it is likely to fail again soon, we will say that too, then let you choose what suits the house and the budget.
Small details help us arrive prepared
For blocked toilets, photos can save time: the label, the leak, the access point, or the place where water is showing. We still confirm it on site, but the extra context helps us bring what the job is likely to need.

Had an issue with our 16 year old toilet leaking from underneath the pan somewhere. Called Blake & he sent Lachlan out the following morning to diagnose & quote. Lachlan gave us 3 options, which was great. We chose the middle one, which included replacing all the internals, so hopefully we should be OK for another 16 years! Both Blake & Lachlan were great to deal with & Lachlan did a great job - definitely better than the original installation, which looked a bit dodgy! Happy to recommend.
fantastic plumbing experience GENIES Plumbing installed a new shower for me. Sensational job done. THEY WERE FRIENDLY, DILIGENT, answered all questions, cleaned up, Very happy with the finished product. Thank you GENIES plumbing!
This is the type of plumbing service that everybody wants. They quote before they do the job. They turn up when they say they will. And they're very good at what they do. Good Service - Fair Price - not something you normally say about Plumbers these days. Keep up the great work Blake, Lachie and Raif.
Amazing service. Highly recommend Lachlan and Genies Plumbing. Thank you for taking time out of your Saturday to put in my new hot water system. Truly a work of art!
Absolutely amazing service from the moment I got in touch with them, and in particular Blake. I explained to him my issue and he took the time and effort (completely unprompted) in providing steps of how he would tackle the problem. When it came time to actually have the issue physically looked at, Lachie gave me a call and let me know how far away he was; he arrived promptly and on-time, and was able to very quickly diagnose and provide a solution. I was quoted on the spot and not pressured whatsoever to have more things looked at than I needed to, which I very much appreciated. While I've got my fingers crossed to not have any further short-term issues with my property's plumbing, I'd wholeheartedly recommend these guys and gals to anyone willing to listen. I'm sure there are many other great plumbing businesses around the Gold Coast, but for my money I'd much rather support a local family-owned business providing a very honest and transparent service, who also aren't looking to bleed your wallet dry.
Very happy with the service from Genies Plumbing. We had a leaking kitchen tap and Blake was out in a couple of hours. He sourced a new one, came back later in the day and fitted it. He advised his arrival times very efficiently and was friendly and polite. Would certainly recommend him and call on him again when necessary.
Matty was honest, genuine, and professional from start to finish. It’s not always easy to find a plumber you can trust, but Matty was upfront, reliable, and took the time to explain everything clearly. A great company with fantastic service. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a trustworthy plumber. I wish them every bit of success in the future - they truly deserve it!

I live in a unit complex and had to get my hot water system replaced as it was old and also to meet the current standards and regulations. I contacted the boys at Genies Plumbing. To say I was happy with their service is an understatement. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They were prompt professional and very neat and tidy and took the time to show me how everything worked and answer all my questions. Thanks Blake and Lachlan for a great job.

Lachlan from Genies Plumbing arrived on time and thoroughly looked over the job before providing us with a quote which he fully explained. He then cracked on with the work and did an amazing job! He was super easy to deal with and had our bathroom fitted off and functioning within a couple of hours. Very pleased we used Genies Plumbing and would recommend them.
Genies Plumbing team was very friendly and explained the different options we could choose from. They were able to do the job the next day! Would recommend and will be having them again for any plumbing needs.
I had a blocked kitchen sink and was quite concerned about the potential for damage and inconvenience. I called Genies Plumbing and once again received outstanding service from Blake. He was prompt, professional, and explained everything clearly. This isn’t the first time I’ve called on Blake, and every time he delivers reliable, high-quality work with genuine care. I really appreciate his consistency, attention to detail, and friendly approach. Highly recommend Genies Plumbing — especially Blake — for exceptional service you can trust!
Blake and Lachlan assisted us with a very complex realignment. They were brilliant. They took the time to explain everything, kept me updated with any issues that arose, kept on time and impressively on budget. They could not have worked harder to resolve our issues. I was so worried that we would need to crack our slab and have to retile the majority of our house. These boys made a plan and stuck to it. Fabulous outcome!!
Great service, friendly, reliable and professional. Thanks to Blake and Lachy, we had a water main leak detected and repaired in no time. They went above and beyond to make sure we had rectified the issue quickly. Highly recommended and will be using Genies for all of our plumbing needs in the future
Blake and Lachlan from Genies Plumbing were really helpful when installing a new hot water heater in my home. It was a quick process with excellent workmanship and very reasonable cost. They were both lovely to deal with and communicated with me at all times. I am so glad Genies Plumbing was recommended to me by my electrician. Will definitely call on them again. Trish
From the moment we made the call with our list of to do's - to the moment the boys came and left after the job completion- the entire help was incredible, and the workmanship was thorough and detailed and reasonable". This workmanship advise is Beyond MOST service and help we have experienced over the last few years. Thank you boys! This type of experience is often not the most favourite one for many people, but in this case, what a great time to get everything sorted with an ease of mind and honesty personified. 2 showers 1 bath 1 laundry 1 bathroom sink Thanks again team - we'll see you again. You'll be our first point of call . A++++
I called Blake to help locate a tricky water leak on our acreage property, he quickly identified multiple leaks on both the council and our side of the line and got them all fixed. He kept us informed every step of the way, and was incredibly responsive and professional, and a genuinely nice person. He's also helping put together a storm water system to help manage the water drainage away from the house during storms. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Blake for any plumbing job, big or small.
Had some plumbing work done by Blake from Genies Plumbing — removal of an old water meter and repair/replacement of some leaking pipework. Communication was great from start to finish, he was prompt, friendly, well priced, and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. Really happy with the work. Would definitely recommend and use again.
Questions we get asked
Should I keep flushing to clear it?
No. If the water is not going down, the next flush has nowhere to go and ends up on the floor. Take the cistern lid off and lift the float if it is already running.
Are flushable wipes actually flushable?
They go down. That is all the word promises. They do not break apart in water the way toilet paper does, so they catch on the first rough joint and everything after that catches on them.
Why does my toilet block over and over?
Either something in the line is catching, or the flush is not strong enough to clear the pan properly. A camera answers the first and the cistern answers the second.
Will you have to take the toilet off?
Usually not. Most pan blockages clear without lifting it. If it does have to come off, you hear why and what that costs before it happens.
